American Idol (PS2)
Ages: Everyone

This version of American Idol for the PS2 is significantly different from the one for Windows. Gone is the microphone -- which was fun to be able to hear how bad you sang. In it's place you can dance on a dance mat. Singing is now done pressing buttons when the symbol hits the center of the target. Miss and you sing awfully off tune. The characters benefit from the year long show -- they bear a resemblance to the characters you have seen on the TV show minus the insults. For those who loved the show - and there were many -- it is a way to relive the adventure of the show.

This game was, in a word...annoying. Not only annoying, but an utter lack of any directions, thus making it confusing. The first thing you have to do is make a character. I figured that out pretty easily. Then I pressed "Play Game" once you get there you have to practice, WITHOUT DIRECTIONS! Since I've played games like it before I figured it out pretty quickly. You have buttons coming from up, left, down, and right, coming towards the middle of the screen, where there is a small circle that you have to line up with the button at the same time. It was pretty easy though. After an hour I had gotten it down. But I didn't know what to do. You see, you can practice in your bedroom, the roof, or a disco ball... but the roof and the disco ball weren't choices of mine yet. So I thought that if I played the bedroom enough that one of those choices would be unlocked. I played through all of the songs (which I will talk about later) about 30 of them and I still hadn't unlocked it yet. Finally I pretty much gave up on practicing and decided to go to the competition. Where I easily got to #1 in an hour. I had finished the whole game in an hour!!! Oh... other things that were annoying: 1. When you changed your clothes in-between performances, they would bombard you with questions literally almost every second "Have you figured out what you're going to wear yet?" "Do you fancy changing your hair style or make up? Do it here!" Ugh! Shut up! I know! 2. When you tried to try on makeup on her, she would put her head down, looking at her shoes, or outfit. So you couldn't see her face 3. The completely annoying cut-scenes of real people from American idol crying and smiling in-between with no commentary. BORING!!! 4. The graphics were awful 5. The annoying comments that my character made at the end after the judges would comment on you "Thanks, you won't regret this!" "Omigosh"...... that's it. 6. Oh, I never got ANY negative feedback. Even the notorious Simon didn't say anything bad. WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU SIMON? There was only one good point of the game: I liked the music. But most people won't... it's mostly bubblegum pop like Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears and NSYNC with some normal music thrown in there like "Kiss Me" "Moment Like This" and "Thank You" Overall this game sucked!! I don't recommend buying it... at all. It gets 1/2 out of 5 stars
