D.W. the Picky Eater
Lena, age 6 with help from Joseph, almost 9 tested this one. The program
was easy to install and open. Without looking at documentation, Lena was
easily able to figure out how to navigate through the modules (forward,
backward, asking for help, or repeating modules).
Her favorite module by far was the Play House,
and she kept returning to
it. Save the Garden was next, but did not seem to be very challenging.
She went through it somewhat easily, but did not go back.
She attempted Family Picnic, a sly introduction into the food groups and
what is good nutrition and Story Maker,
but these did not seem to grab
her attention as much. Pre-readers will have to work their way through
these modules without reading - it is probably much more fun for
readers. Sticker Fun was fun, but again, this module can be a lot of
work for a pre reader.
Overall, she liked the program very much, and it has potential of a
game she could come back too as her skills grow. For example, she will
outgrow the Play House soon, and grow into the reading/creating modules.
Lastly, she liked having DW as the main character with Arthur playing
support.
